Yoga For Beginners - Five Useful Habits to Adopt to Live a Healthy Lifestyle

During a recent yoga class with one of my new students, she said she wanted to learn what other changes she could make in her daily life to improve her health.


I realized that practicing yoga is just one aspect of living a healthy and happy lifestyle.

To live a holistic and balanced lifestyle, you need to include relaxation, healthy foods, breathing and positive thinking in your daily routine.

Five good habits for living a healthy lifestyle

1. Exercise properly

Proper exercise is one of the five essential points of yoga, as taught by Swami Vishnu Devananda, founder and mentor of the Sivananda International Yoga Center.

Yoga exercises are designed to enhance flexibility, strength and balance in the body. In yoga, the physical body is seen as the vehicle in which the soul lives its journey in this lifetime. So yoga exercises are also designed to improve your spiritual and mental life.

A physical yoga exercise is called asanas, which means a steady posture. As you become more in tune with yoga, you are more able to `` hold on, '' that is, be in position for a longer period of time.

Through practicing yoga, your body becomes more flexible, strong and flexible. Poses bring balance to the body, especially the muscles and the skeleton that support the body.

The internal organs are gently massaged. Muscles gradually release tension to allow new energy to flow through your body.

Yoga exercises focus on developing a strong, resilient spine. You may be familiar with the saying, "You are as small as your spine." The spine houses the nervous system. During stretching and exercise, blood circulation increases, which helps supply and nourish the nerves with a rich supply of nutrients and oxygen.

2. Proper breathing

In yoga, proper breathing, known as pranayama, means breathing full, deep, and regular use of your entire breathing apparatus. Most people use a fraction of their lung capacity to breathe.

When you do yoga, you learn to breathe properly. This is a valuable gift to give yourself. When you feel stressed, frustrated, and tired, some round of yogic deep breathing can help recharge your body, clear and calm your mind.

3. Proper relaxation

We lead a stressful, busy, and full life. Many yoga students come to yoga as a way to learn how to relax and release tension and tension from their bodies. While relaxing the yogi, we encourage you to relax in the savasan, corpse pose. This promotes deep physical, emotional and spiritual relaxation.

After a busy day at work, I encourage my students to rest and relax for 10-20 minutes when they get home. This helps the body to de-stress the return trip and the hectic pace of work.

4. A proper diet

Yoga encourages you to eat a nutritious diet based on eating healthy, natural, and simple foods, for example. Whole grains, fruits, legumes, seeds, sprouted seeds, nuts, and vegetables. These foods are easier for the body to digest and have a calming effect on the mind.

5. Positive thoughts and meditation

Positive behavior, in addition to the ability to calm and clear your mind, is a key habit that you must cultivate to help you lead a healthy and balanced life. Meditation is the key to helping you achieve this state.
